A new place to chill out is coming to Meridian.
Sisu Sauna and Cold Plunge is in the works for a storefront near TopGolf. According to documents filed with the city, the 1,800-square-foot spa will have two sauna rooms, two cold plunge baths, and multiple showers.
Owner Spencer Crosland said he got the idea for the business after he and his wife visited a sauna spa and there were no showers to clean off in. He said while they were pursuing opening a sauna spa of their own, his brother-in-law suggested adding cold plunges. Crosland liked the idea, especially since he had used cold plunges during his days as a college athlete.
“We’re pretty excited about it and there are lots of people looking forward to us opening,” Crosland said.
When Sisu opens, patrons will be able to purchase a $35 pass that will give them access to the saunas and cold plunges for an hour. Crosland said within that hour, patrons will be able to cycle through the saunas, showers, and cold plunges three or four times, allowing the body to experience “contrast therapy.”
Cold plunges have been growing in popularity in recent years. They typically involve submerging for several minutes in a tub or body of water 50 degrees or colder. An article written by Dr. Andrew Jagim for the Mayo Clinic said the positive effects of cold plunges include reducing inflammation and soreness after exercise, building resiliency, restoring balance to the nervous system, and improving cognitive function and mood.
Crosland said when Sisu’s website goes live in the next few weeks, the public will be able to purchase memberships and passes to the spa.
The spa will open later this summer in August and is located at 1181 S. Silverstone Wy. in Meridian. For more information, email [email protected]
